SSince ancient times, dance has been a very important part of people's celebrations, ceremonies, rituals, and entertainment. Today, we also view dance in all its forms as not only a great way to socialize with others, but also as a way to exercise, and improve our self esteem. Here are a few points to keep in mind regarding the health benefits of dance:

• Dancing helps to reduce stress

• Dancing Increases your energy

• Improves strength

• Increases muscle tone and coordination

• Increases cardiovascular conditioning

• Dancing provides Intellectual stimulation; it involves learning patterns, combinations and or choreography; it provides mental flexibility; helps to ward off depression and loneliness

• Arts appreciation;  learning about cultures, rhythms, creative expression

• Social well being: dancing encourages teamwork, cooperation, communication

• Individual stimulation: Dancing also increases your self-esteem, self discipline, and sense of accomplishment

In general, dancing in all its forms, is a unique way to exercise the mind, body, and spirit. It conditions the body, helps keep your heart healthy, helps with weight loss, relieves stress, and is a great way to socialize with others. It can renew your spirit, and help you feel more relaxed and happy overall.
